BSA TROOP 12 News and Announcements: 1. All scouts less then FIRST CLASS in rank are required to bring their scout books with them to EACH meeting. The scout is responsible for seeing that things get checked off in the book. 2. All scouts need to bring their scout book when we have a Board of review. 3. Parents, It takes 21 Merit badges to make eagle scout. 11 are eagle required ones. A scout can earn 3-6 MB at summer camp, 1-2 at Aquatics camp, 1-2 at merit badge college. Even by attending all of these, it takes several years to make eagle. make sure that your scout attends camps and completes their merit badges. Also keep an eye out for a a scout who takes only fun and not eagle required merit badges. A lot of people have missed past courts of honor and am sitting on a few old MB that I need to hand out. 4. Parents: If your scout is taking medicines on any of our camp outs or trips, please write out instructions for them/us to ensure that they are taken correctly. If there are any special needs or issues, please inform me of them BEFORE we leave! 5. If you need to contact me, e-mail me here: E-mail Rodger Blake. (Acting Scout master of BSA troop 12) 6. Life scouts need to get moving on their eagle projects. Meet with Mr. Maniskas. All life scouts should have as a goal to make eagle scout prior to November 1 of their Senior year of high school. 7. Max Wilson has an eagle project in progress. Adam Smith is Troop 12's first eagle scout for 2008. Please watch for e-mails about when we are working on eagle projects - help they become eagles. 8. I would like to appoint an older scout to be a big brother for each of our new scouts. 9. Summer camp and other options: If you need merit badges: attend summer camp. earn at summer camp: swimming and environmental science. Take a mix of eagle and noneagle Merit Badges. If you are an older scout and have most of your merit badges, consider the "outpost" program - this runs during summer camp. This will include a 3 day backpacking trip - earn - backpacking, wilderness survival, cooking, or forestry MB. Learn scout skills that are no longer taught such as tracking and signaling. Play old time scout games. Hone leadership skills. After summer camp consider attending Wilderness Rangers - this is a unique program found nowhere else in the nation. You can earn MB. you will; walk on a bog, see a fly catcher plant, visit raptors - a fish hatchery - and the green bank telescope, electroshock fish, practice turkey netting, ride the Cass railroad, swim, canoe, fish - Heck, I want to go - but no - wilderness rangers is for scouts only. Ask Matt Peyton about 2006 trip or Jacob Masters about the 2008 trip. The rumor is that Jacob Masters will be the SPL for the 2009 trip - I'd love to see some T 12 boys go with him. 10.
