Troop 12 - planning page -
these plans are not yet set in stone
Long term plans:
On my agenda:
- I want to assign an older scout to each
younger scout to act as a big brother. this scout will need to help the
younger scout meet all of the early rank requirements and teach him scout
skills. We may get 5 new scouts in November - we need to get this going to
handle the influx.
- I want to hold troop elections
- I want to start having PLC meetings again (we
have done these on the first Monday of the month in the past, but we are
flexible)
- I want to go through the Junior troop leader
training - I have the book for this - they say to a lot 3 meetings for this. I
would want to have a dedicated adult leader meeting and then an adult PLC
meeting before we did this.
- I would like Leland to meet with Jeff Jackson
(?Glen and perhaps the rest of us adults) to try to think of how to teach
merit badges in the troop: at meetings, as a Sunday or Saturday event, how? As
part of this perhaps John can help plan to complete the aviation merit badge
that we started in the Spring.
- I would like to develop an advancement
committee or section. It would need to review: incomplete merit badges and
then meet with those planning MB instruction (see 5 above) to effect
completion of the same. A separate eagle sub section would focus on the life
scouts - seeing who needs MB to be completed and referring them to the
incomplete or missing MB section, ensuring that the boys are seeking and or
working on their eagle scout
- I would like to have 2 people (adults) for
every job. That way if only one shows up, the job still gets done. It will
prevent burn out. Perhaps we can explain this to the boys and get SPL/ASPL and
PL/APL teams operating. Perhaps we can apply this logic to the big brother
thing (see 1. above).
- We might want to think about having big boy as
well as whole troop events. The plan would be to try to do a few "high
adventure" trips or events (backpacking?) with just the bigger kids.
