Orientation path one - This runs from the parking lot for the Overlook trail to the overlook, distance is about 1/4 mile and altitude change is about 244 feet.
First drive to the route 10 (Barboursville, state park) side of the lake and turn right into the park, directions:
Located
in the south western section of West Virginia, Beech Fork is easily
accessible from Interstate 64:
Using Exit 11: (Hal Greer Blvd. Exit)--Take Rt.
10 south. Continue approximately 4 miles turn right onto Hughes
Branch Road and follow to the end. (another 4 miles). Turn left and the
park is about 2 miles straight ahead. (30 minutes) - at this point - take
a fight turn into the camping area entrance.
The parking lot for the Overlook trail is about 0.4 miles from where you turn to enter the park. It is on the right, just past the second camp ground (camp grounds are on the left, this one is called the "Moxley Branch" campground), you will cross a creek on a small bridge and the entry to the lot is on your left just after you cross the bridge.
Directions are from the lot:
Go 70 degrees for 451' to just across the foot bridge
Go 25 degrees for 188' to trail head for overlook trail
Bear 20 degrees and follow that trail 346' to junction with overlook loop trail
bear 53 degrees and follow trail 0.1 miles to rocks (i.e. turn right at junction)
you can finish the Overlook loop by taking the trail that bears at 21 degrees and follow it back to the junction of the loop trail - total distance of hike from lot back to lot is about 1.6 miles
